            The Fairy Dance
The fairies are dancing — how nimbly they bound!
   They flit o'er the grass tops, they touch not the ground;
Their kirtles of green are with diamonds bedight,
   All glittering and sparkling beneath the moonlight.

Hark, hark to their music! how silvery and clear —
   'Tis surely the flower-bells that ringing I hear, —
The lazy-wing'd moth, with the grasshopper wakes,
   And the field-mouse peeps out, and their revels partakes.

How featly they trip it! how happy are they
   Who pass all their moments in frolic and play,
Who rove where they list, without sorrows or cares,
   And laugh at the fetters mortality wears!

But where have they vanish'd? — a cloud 's o'er the moon,
   I'll hie to the spot, — they'll be seen again soon —
I hasten — 'tis lighter, — and what do I view? —
   The fairies were grasses, the diamonds were dew.

And thus do the sparkling illusions of youth
   Deceive and allure, and we take them for truth;
Too happy are they who the juggle unshroud,

Neon lights, beckoning, inviting,
souls to come over to play.
Promising something exciting,
if one should stray their way.

Look at their bright colors flashing;
pretty they are to behold.
Twisting and turning in patterns quite dashing,
but now only half the story's been told.

When the sun comes up and lightens the sky

as their neon lives fade away.

but everything is now exposed by the Light
and many regret the big mess they are in.

but others still crave all that jaded old 'fun',

Taking down the Christmas Tree..

Goodbye Christmas Tree - Poem by Jim Yerman

We finally took our Christmas tree down; it was time but I might add
Every year taking the tree down makes me a little sad.

The ornaments and lights are stored and all that’s left is the tree
Soon everything about Christmas is just a memory.

Oh their good memories, don’t get me wrong, I just wish they had extended
Because taking down the tree means Christmas has finally ended.

Now this Christmas joins all Christmases past and with other memories is combined
And the only way to visit them is in the corners of our mind.

They join memories of Deborah’s mom and dad, memories we adore
They join Whitman our old golden, whose essence still waits by the door.

They join memories of our children and grandchildren and all memories new and old
I’m always amazed at the amount of memories this old house can hold.

Taking down the Christmas tree reminds me of how we live only in the present
And that life is so ephemeral, so sudden, so evanescent.

It reminds me to cherish each moment while that memory’s being made
For soon that moment’s over and even memories can fade.

Sometimes I wish those happy moments would last eternally
But then I realize if that were true we’d make no new memories.

No, Life is meant to keep moving, that’s the way it has been cast
And it’s up to us to move with it and not linger in the past.

But that won’t stop me from enjoying this most recent memory
