Summer Fairy....

My Summer Fairy

I see her flit between the trees

dancing on the warm spring breeze

Waltzing with the wiley weeds

helping sow their willful seeds.

She sometimes turns and winks at me

whilst chatting up a bumblebee

She's made her home in my old oak

along with other fairy folk.

Across her bed of Irish moss

rose petals each day she will toss

They scent her dreams throughout the night

and keep her warm 'till first daylight.

With fluffy dandelion pillows

chairs and tables made from willows

She's made her carpets from the reeds

nature providing all she needs.

At dawn she rises out of bed

and gathers up the acorns shed

She lays them where they can be found

when hungry deer come browsing round.

Her voice is always first to sing

at night around the fairy ring

The fireflies that flicker there

hang like magic in the air.

It's early May when she appears

then in October disappears

Before she goes she sprinkles dust

as old oak leaves begin to rust.
